Best Alternatives to Zeal 3D, Zelta3D, Formero, KAD3D and Solidium3D in Australia

An honest guide to Australian 3D printing alternatives to KAD3D, Formero, Zeal 3D, Zelta3D and Solidium3D, with a comparison table and a simple way to choose.
Written by the Forge Labs team. Published 31 October 2026. We reviewed each company's public information in October 2026.
Forge Labs published this guide, so we compare our own service. We have no connection with the companies named here. If you spot something out of date, email contact@forgelabs.com.au and we will correct it.
Quick answer
The best alternative to KAD3D, Formero, Zeal 3D, Zelta3D or Solidium3D depends on where you are and what your part needs. For teams in Sydney and NSW who want 3D printing, CNC machining and short run production from one engineer led supplier, Forge Labs is the strongest fit.
Other suppliers win on some jobs, so use this list:
- Printed titanium, stainless steel or aluminium: KAD3D, Formero and Zeal 3D list printed metal. We do not print metal in house. We machine metal parts on CNC.
- ISO 9001:2015 paperwork: Formero shows the certification. We do not claim it.
- FDM batches only, priced instantly: Solidium3D.
- The lowest advertised price on simple plastic parts: Zelta3D advertises printing from $5. Ask where your parts get made first.
- A Sydney or NSW supplier who reviews your file and quotes within hours: Forge Labs.
Why buyers look for an alternative
People searching “alternative to KAD3D” or “Formero alternatives” usually have one of these reasons:
- Distance. The other five suppliers list Victorian or Singapore addresses on their public pages. Buyers in NSW then pay for interstate freight and wait for it.
- Process gaps. One bureau may not offer the nylon, resin, fibre composite or machined metal your part needs.
- Price against value. A low price per part means little if the part fails or ships late.
- Confidential files. Some buyers need an NDA signed before any file moves.
- Unclear production. Buyers want to know which country makes their parts.
- File review. Many want a person to check the design before printing starts.
How we compared
We read each company’s public pages, directory listings and review profiles. We did not order parts from any of them.
I looked at where each team works, which processes and materials each one lists whether each one sets an order how fast each one says it ships and what proof each one shows. Prices and lead times change so check each site before you decide.
Comparison table
| Company | Based in | Printed metal | Proof shown on public pages | Speed or price signal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forge Labs | NSW, with a South Windsor workshop | No, CNC machined metal only | 8+ years, 1,200+ projects, published results | Quotes usually within four working hours, no minimum order |
| KAD3D | Reservoir, VIC | Yes, SLM | 300+ or 400+ Google reviews, depending on the listing | 24 hour express FDM |
| Formero | Nunawading, VIC | Yes, SLM | ISO 9001:2015 and JOSCAR logos, all printing done in Melbourne | Some parts out in 1 to 3 days |
| Zeal 3D | Melbourne office, by appointment | Yes, metal printing listed | 4.7 Google rating, 40+ materials | No minimum order, FDM in 24 hours, other processes in 5 to 6 working days |
| Zelta3D | Singapore address in directory listings | Not listed | 5.0 from 355 reviews on a Singapore profile | Advertises printing from $5 |
| Solidium3D | West Footscray, VIC | Not listed on pages we checked | No review counts on pages we checked | Instant quote, 2 to 5 day dispatch |
Alternative to KAD3D
KAD3D works from Reservoir in Melbourne. It lists FDM, SLA, SLS, MJF and SLM metal printing in stainless steel, aluminium and titanium, plus CNC machining, vacuum casting and injection moulding. It also offers a 24 hour express service for FDM parts.
Why people look elsewhere. Melbourne is a long way from Sydney, so NSW buyers wait on interstate courier. Some buyers also like to compare quotes from two bureaus before ordering.
Where Forge Labs fits better. We work from NSW, and you can collect from our South Windsor workshop by appointment. For structural parts, our engineers plan where each strand of continuous carbon fibre runs on our Markforged systems, and we send a written fibre specification with the part. For metal parts, we machine aluminium, stainless steel and tool steel on 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC. We hold ±0.05 mm as standard and reach ±0.025 mm on careful 5 axis work. We also inspect the first part of every production run and send you the report.
A fair note. KAD3D lists CNC machining too, so ask both bureaus for tolerances and inspection reports in writing. Check the live Google profile as well, because KAD3D’s own listings show 300+ reviews in some places and 400+ in others.
Choose KAD3D if you are in Melbourne and need printed metal or a very fast FDM part. Choose Forge Labs if you are in NSW, or you want engineered fibre parts and CNC work from one team.
Alternative to Formero
Formero is a Nunawading bureau with a deep process list: MSLA, SLA, SLS, MJF, FDM, DLP and SLM metal, plus injection tooling, CNC machining and vacuum casting. It shows ISO 9001:2015 certification and a JOSCAR logo, and it says all its printing happens in Melbourne.
Why people look elsewhere. Formero says it will sign an NDA but reads the document first, which may take a few days. Buyers with tight deadlines or sensitive designs often want that settled sooner. NSW buyers also face interstate freight.
Where Forge Labs fits better. We welcome NDAs and treat every file as confidential from the first upload. Most quotes come back within four working hours, and an engineer opens your file, checks it and tells you what to change before any money moves. We can then take you from an FDM or SLS prototype to short runs on HP MJF, vacuum casting or injection moulding with the same team.
A fair note. If your buyer demands ISO 9001:2015 or JOSCAR paperwork, Formero shows both and we do not. Ask yourself whether your buyer needs a certificate or a measured inspection report, because we supply the report.
Choose Formero if certification decides the order. Choose Forge Labs if you want fast, engineer led quotes in NSW and a certificate is not required.
Alternative to Zeal 3D
Zeal 3D lists a Melbourne office that you visit by appointment. Its menu covers FDM, SLA, SLS, PolyJet and metal printing, plus CNC machining, casting and injection moulding. It says it holds more than 40 materials, shows a 4.7 Google rating and states no minimum order. It quotes FDM in 24 hours and other processes in 5 to 6 working days.
Why people look elsewhere. The page is long, and some buyers prefer a shorter path to a quote. Its page also carries a note that images are for illustration only, so buyers ask to see real parts.
Where Forge Labs fits better. We share real results. One engineering client cut the cost of a custom mount by 73.6 percent. A power tool maker reported development ten times faster. A VR headset project produced over 1,000 visor parts every 72 hours. You can read more on our 3D printing services Melbourne page. We also tell you in writing which process we recommend and why.
A fair note. Zeal 3D lists printed metal and we do not. If your part needs printed titanium, Zeal 3D is a better fit.
Choose Zeal 3D if you want one catalogue that includes printed metal. Choose Forge Labs if you want an engineer to pick the process for you.
Alternative to Zelta3D
Zelta3D advertises MJF, SLA, SLS and FDM printing from $5. Directory listings give a Singapore address, and its Singapore Trustindex profile shows 5.0 from 355 reviews. Zelta3D also has an Australian website.
Why people look elsewhere. A very low starting price raises questions about where parts get made, how long freight takes and whether import charges apply. Some buyers also hesitate to send confidential designs offshore.
Questions to ask Zelta3D before you order:
- Where will my order be made?
- What is the total lead time, including freight?
- Do import charges or GST apply?
- Who carries the risk if parts arrive damaged?
Where Forge Labs fits better. We are Australian owned and make your parts at our NSW workshops, so your files stay onshore and your parts ship from inside the country. A person reviews your file before printing.
Choose Zelta3D if a very low price on simple parts matters most and you have confirmed the answers above. Choose Forge Labs if you want Australian production and engineering advice.
Alternative to Solidium3D
Solidium3D works from West Footscray and focuses on FDM, with instant online quoting and batch pricing. That suits repeat runs of strong plastic parts.
Why people look elsewhere. Many projects outgrow FDM. You may need the smooth finish of SLA, the strength of SLS or MJF nylon, a machined aluminium part or a moulded one.
Where Forge Labs fits better. We cover FDM, SLA, SLS, HP MJF, continuous fibre, full colour, CNC machining, vacuum casting and injection moulding in one place. You can start with a single prototype and scale to runs of 10,000 parts or more without changing supplier. See our MJF page and our low volume manufacturing page.
Choose Solidium3D if you only need FDM batches with instant pricing. Choose Forge Labs if your project may grow beyond plastic prototypes.
What Forge Labs offers
- A person checks your file first. An engineer reviews wall thickness, tolerances and material choice before you pay.
- Fibre parts built to your load. Continuous carbon fibre, fibreglass or Kevlar goes where your part carries stress. Learn more on our continuous carbon fibre page.
- Measured machining. We run 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC and send inspection reports on production runs. See our CNC machining page.
- Australian ownership. Production happens in NSW, and tracked freight reaches every capital city.
- No minimum order. A single prototype gets the same care as a thousand parts, and our materials library lists more than 150 options.
